Edward Sweeney

Prof. Ed Sweeney

Professor Ed Sweeney is Deputy Executive Dean of the School of Social Sciences at Heriot-Watt University.

He is Professor of Logistics and Supply Chain Management in Edinburgh Business School, part of Heriot-Watt University, where he is active in research, teaching and knowledge exchange activity. An engineer by background, Ed’s work is focussed on supply chain design and integration, with a particular emphasis on sustainability. His research has been widely published, with close to 200 books and book chapters, academic journal papers and articles in practitioner publications.

Ed sits on the editorial boards of several leading academic journals including the International Journal of Physical Distribution and Logistics Management and the International Journal of Logistics: Research and Applications.

He has held academic posts in the UK, Ireland and Malaysia. Outside of academia, Ed has worked in the life sciences, automotive and logistics sectors. He is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport, the Chartered Management Institute and the Institute of Leadership, and was recently made a Freeman of the Worshipful Company of Carmen.

Ed is passionate about supply chain innovation and effective academic/business collaboration in driving this innovation.
