Dr Lois Baker is a Flora Philip Fellow in the School of Mathematics at the University of Edinburgh. Since 2023, she has held an EPSRC National Fellowship in Fluid Dynamics to explore multi-scale interactions between internal waves and oceanic eddies.

Lois earned her PhD in Physical Oceanography from Imperial College London (2023). Her expertise lies in mathematical and numerical modeling of ocean mixing processes, particularly the dynamics of internal waves, submesoscales, and flow–topography interactions. She is passionate about bridging the gap between fundamental research in geophysical fluid dynamics and application-driven ocean science, and contributing to open-source, sustainable, and reproducible software and data.
