How should we approach shaping climate solutions? The FeME Co-Creation Forum wants to know

News, Featured

Applications are now open for the Co-Creation Forum, a 2.5-day event hosted by the Failure Modes of Engineering (FeME) network in Edinburgh this October.

The forum brings together practitioners, policy-makers, academics, and community-engagement experts to work on a question that sits at the heart of FeME’s work: what does it actually take to co-create engineered solutions to climate change with the people most affected by it?

Over the past year, FeME has been in conversation with practitioners and community representatives across transport and logistics, energy, and water — exploring what makes this so difficult in practice. The Co-Creation Forum takes that conversation further.

Across two and a half days, participants will work together on four interconnected questions:

  • How do we make the best use of limited resources when the climate itself is the threat?
  • How do we mitigate the disruptions climate change is causing?
  • How do we adapt to the disruptions already underway?
  • How do we genuinely engage and co-create with the people whose lives engineering solutions are meant to serve?

The outputs — including a white paper co-authored by all participants — will begin to take shape during the event itself. On the final half-day, forum participants will join FeME’s first cohort of seed-funded teams to share what has been learned.

This forum is for people who have worked at the intersection of engineering, climate, and community — in any capacity. We are not looking for a particular job title or institutional affiliation. Practitioners, community organisers, policy advisors, independent consultants, and people whose expertise comes from lived experience are all equally welcome to apply.

FeME will cover return travel to Edinburgh, hotel accommodation, and meals for all participants. The FeME Caring Pot covers caring costs — for children, elders, or unwell relatives — that often stop people from attending events like this. No successful applicant should be unable to attend because of financial situation.
