Failure Modes

In engineering, a failure mode describes the way a system can break down. At FeME, we borrow this concept to look at engineering itself: where and how it fails society, the environment, and the people most affected by climate change and biodiversity loss.

By identifying these recurring “failure modes,” we can better understand the structural gaps that prevent engineering from delivering fair, inclusive, and sustainable solutions. Just as engineers study failures to design stronger systems, FeME uses this approach to reimagine engineering so it is more resilient, adaptable, and representative of the society it serves.

Our approach has been co-designed around six Failure Modes
