
Ulfath Ibrahim
Ulfath Ibrahim is a multi-disciplinary social scientist and environmentalist from the Maldives, with a career dedicated to advancing climate resilience, sustainable development, and environmental justice.
She currently serves as a Fellow at the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), supporting intergovernmental climate negotiations. Prior to her role at the UNFCCC, Ms. Ibrahim served as Assistant Director of Climate Change at the Office of the President’s Special Envoy for Climate Change in the Maldives, leading work in integrating climate resilience and sustainability across national policies and government initiatives. She co-authored the Maldives’ first Tourism Climate Action Plan, highlighting her commitment to cross-sectoral approaches to climate resilience. In this role, she has also represented the Maldives at several COPs under the UNFCCC, serving as the lead technical negotiator on Loss and Damage, advocating for the rights of small island developing states. She is also a registered trainer for climate negotiation training in the Maldives Civil Service Training Institute and has collaborated with UNICEF to deliver a youth mock COP in the Maldives in 2023, helping nurture future climate leaders.
Ulfath holds a Master’s degree in Environment & Development from the University of Edinburgh, awarded through the Chevening Scholarship. Her dissertation on blue carbon ecosystem management in the Maldives earned her a distinction and an invitation to brief Members of the UK Parliament. She also holds a Bachelor’s Degree with a major in Politics, International Studies & a minor in Environmental Science from the University of Melbourne, awarded under the Australia Awards Scholarship.
In recognition of her contributions to climate action, Ulfath was named to the University of Edinburgh’s Climate 75 list, which celebrates alumni driving global climate action.
